Hoyoung Moon

Hoyoung Moon is a translator and writer based in Seoul. They translated You Have Reached the End of the Future by Hwang Inchan (Asia Publishers, 2021), the Korean edition of What About the Rest of Your Life by sung (Media ILDA, 2020), and the English lyrics for Lang Lee’s album Playing God, among others. dahyun kim, ex-English literature student, wrote two dissertations on Raymond Carver, short story lover, not a huge fan of science fiction but loves anything to do with time travel, thinks that translation is really hard despite that being a big part of her job, wants someone to translate everything that Kim Keum-hee has ever written into English, can be found at @wise_tea_ on Twitter.

grace hs.p. is a translator living in Suwon. Translations by her have appeared in Asymptote and a number of journals of sociology and anthropology. She was awarded a commendation prize at the 50th Korea Times translation awards for her translation of Kim Sagwa’s short story “Burial.“

Helen Hwayeon

Helen Hwayeon is a writer and translator. Born in Seoul, South Korea, she moved to the US and spent her formative years in Los Angeles as a 1.5 generation immigrant before continuing her studies on the East Coast. Kim's practice concerns translation as a mode of life and investigates the ways multilingualism shapes artistic and literary experience. In addition to chogwa, her words can be found in Aster(ix) Journal and in "Borum," Taiwanese artist Hong-Kai Wang's exhibition catalogue of her project on "wind" for the 2020 Jeju Biennale. She tweets and posts on Instagram @helenorhyk.

 

Seth Chandler

Seth Chandler is a literary and academic translator. He received his master's degree in modern Korean poetry from Seoul National University and studied translation at the LTI Translation Academy. His work has appeared in Azalea, Korean Literature Now, chogwa zine, and elsewhere.

Archana Madhavan

translator - issues 1, 2, 5, 6, 10

Archana Madhavan is a literary translator from Korean into English. Her first book-length work is a co-translation of Glory Hole by Kim Hyun (Seagull Books, 2022). Her poetry and prose translations have appeared in Modern Poetry in Translation, The Kenyon Review, Columbia Journal, and more. In 2022, Archana was selected as the Korean poetry mentee for the ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship Program. Her work can be found online at archanawrites.com.

E. Yae Won

E. Yae Won is a translator based in Korea. She has translated Hwang Jungeun, Yi SangWoo, Kim Soom, and Cheon Heerahn into English, and her translations into Korean of Samuel Beckett, Deborah Levy, and Ali Smith are forthcoming.

 

Sung Ryu

Sung Ryu is a Korean-English translator who has lived in South Korea, the US, Canada, and most recently Singapore. Her translations include Tower by Bae Myung-hoon (2021), I’m Waiting for You: And Other Stories by Kim Bo-Young (co-translated with Sophie Bowman, 2021), Shoko’s Smile by Choi Eunyoung (2021), and the Korean edition of Grandma Moses: My Life’s History by Anna Mary Robertson Moses (2017). She translated the Jeju myth “Segyeong Bonpuri” (Origins of the Harvest Deities) for her MA thesis.

Emily Bettencourt

Emily is a Korean-English translator and serial adopter of passion projects currently living in Portland, Oregon. She attended the LTI Korea Translation Academy in 2017-2019 and, in a kismetic overlap of interests, is the translator of Cha Miju's Philosophizing About BTS (2020) and Kim Namguk's BTS Insight (2021). She has translated poems by Lee Jenny and Ra Heeduk for Puerto del Sol and Asymptote, and her translation of "Across the Tooniverse" by Im Guk-yeong appeared in Azalea. Victoria Caudle is a literary translator and PhD candidate at UCLA. She has an MA in Korean Language and Literature from Seoul National University and an MA in Literary Translation from the University of East Anglia.
